Spring Lake Simmentals

Based near Daysland, Alberta, Spring Lake Simmentals is a family-owned operation managed by Doug and Larene Zimmer alongside their son Eric and his wife Cristin. Specializing in high-performance Black, Red, and Fullblood Simmental genetics, the program manages a cowherd of over 300 breeding females. Their breeding philosophy centers on producing structurally sound, "easy doing" performance cattle that excel in real-world environments, with a particular reputation for their "Zimmer Red" cattle—a unique, deep-red color sought after in the industry. By developing their bulls in large movement-focused pens and utilizing elite sires like B Bar C Justify and MRL Sysco 14D, the Zimmers provide both purebred and commercial producers with rugged, athletic seedstock designed for consistency and longevity. Their commitment to the industry is underscored by their annual on-farm bull sale and a focused selection process that prioritizes maternal strength, calving ease, and heavy hair coats.
